Starbucks Ban Reusable Cups to Stop Coronavirus Spread

Chain coffee shop Starbucks have stopped accepting customers reusable coffee cups, in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19, or Coronavirus. It's been understood that this was an internal decision from Starbucks staff, rather than one recommended by any medial or healthcare professionals.

There has been some backlash over the decision from some environmentalist groups, as at least 2.5 billion coffee cups are sent to landfill every year in the UK.

Despite this, a professor from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical medicine has said that during this time, hygiene should take priority over any environmental issues as we aim to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

However, other coffee chains including Caffé Nero and Pret a Manger have confirmed that they will still be accepting reusable cups.
