Second Person Cured of HIV Reveals Identity

In London, the second person cured of HIV globally has come public with his identity.

It was announced this month that the man, then known as, “London patient” was cured of the virus. Adam Castillejo, who came public to the New York Times, achieved the result of ‘sustained remission’ after treatment at the Hammersmith Hospital.

Mr. Castillejo, aged 40 received bone marrow stem cells from a donor. The donor had a rare genetic mutation, which resists the HIV infection.

Mr. Castillejo’s cure comes over 10 years after the last case of someone being cured, which was in Brazil 2007. He has chosen to come public in order to aid misunderstandings about the virus.
