For the first time in British history, a man has walked free after killing three people on the grounds of self-defence. Police were called on the 19th of August 2020 at 7.30pm to Elmstead Road, Ilford to the report of a disturbance. On the arrival of the police, the police found three victims dead at the scene. The police subsequently arrested a 29-year-old male , Gurjeet Singh. He was then charged with possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.
The three victims were said to have been in dispute with Singh over an outstanding debt. On the night of the murder, Singh was spotted by five Sikh men in Ilford. The men followed Singh and eventually confronted him. A vicious fight broke out which involved weapons and resulted in three men dying, one of the attackers was injured and the other attacker was the getaway driver.
One of the attackers who was injured was jailed for four and a half years and he will be deported after his prison sentence. The getaway driver was jailed for 12 months, and will also be deported after he serves his prison sentence. Singh has not been jailed, however after his treatment he is due to be deported due to being in violation of visa regulations.
