The National Cyber Security Centre described this attack as “low level”, contradicting Corbyn’s initial statement claiming it was “sophisticated” and a “large scale” incident.
However, The Times claimed the names of online donors had been revealed as a result of a data breach.
Labour say the attacks have come from Brazil and Russia, and their systems had crashed due to the attack.
Labour’s executive director of Elections and Campaigns, Niall Sookoo, said the multiple attempts compromise their system “failed”, but the protocols put in place to increase security did cause some issues with their campaign systems. Following the second cyber-attack, a Labour Party spokesperson said have dealt with the incident “quickly and efficiently”.
