858 people, including students at University of West London and private renters living on the Paragon Estate, have been evicted from their rooms. Alternative accommodation has been found for 668 students in Wembley. Those living in 105 shared-ownership leasehold units and 65 intermediate rent homes, were moved to hotels near the estate.
Notting Hill Genesis, the housing association who owns the six-block complex in West London, is to undertake a comprehensive investigation into the safety of the buildings, following expert advice that the construction may be putting residents at risk.
The discovery comes as a series of safety checks were carried out of the development, looking at building performance issues and cladding-related concerns following the changed government guidance since the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
NHG will pay for the costs of the moves and the new accommodation, as well as offering dedicated caseworkers for residents. It is not yet clear how long residents are expected to live in alternative accommodation.
