On the 17th of October, a man was filmed ripping a cross down from the top of a church in Chadwell Heath The footage was later posted on social media, showing the man pulling the cross and eventually snapping the cross.
Local citizens witnessed as the man threw the cross onto the floor. Fortunately, nobody was injured. As the man threw the cross, he subsequently proceeded to jump down and started to drag the cross.. Eventually, the police were called and the man was arrested.
The case was bound over from magistrates court to the crown court, as the matter as considered a serious offence. Chair magistrate Gillian Seabright stated: "Mr. Alwali, we are sending this matter to the crown court. You will be remanded in custody."
The magistrates court has determined that a mental health assessment needs to take place. The reverend of the church was seen fixing the cross the following day.
