The government has proposed that Transport for London should extend the congestion charge zone for emergency funding. This would be a reaction to TFL facing £2bn in fare revenue losses on public transport due to the pandemic.
North and South Circular roads are proposed to be hit with congestion charges, meaning that residents in areas such as Brixton, Kensington, Wood Green, Stratford, Poplar and Walworth would be affected. This expansion is proposed to reach a much larger area than the congestion charge zone already in place.
This means that Londoners would have to pay or risk a higher fine. In such a difficult financial time for so many people, this proposal is raising many concerns.
